Banco Santander has bolstered its securities finance team with the appointment of Simon Picton as head of securities finance sales, based in London.

In his new role, Picton will report to Javier Gozalo de la Cruz, head of Institutional sales UK, Banco Santander London Branch.

During his career, Picton spent six years at Morgan Stanley. His most recent role there was vice president secured finance. He has also worked as a business development manager, global investor/international securities finance at Euromoney.

Commenting on the appointment of Picton, Cruz tells Asset Servicing Times: “We are very pleased that Simon Picton has joined the team. He will bring his more than 12 years of experience in the securities finance industry to help further our efforts in offering best in class service to our clients and counterparties.”

Cruz continues: “He has extensive experience in secured funding strategy, client financing and securities lending.”

“Banco Santander continues to view securities financing as a key business line to enhance our partnership with both bank and buy-side clients, and the hiring of Picton is a direct investment into expanding both the scope of products and clients we cover from our London branch,” adds Cruz.

Earlier this year Banco Santander appointed IHS Markit to report over-the-counter derivatives trades to multiple jurisdictions with its global regulatory reporting solution platform.
