Sustainable investment manager Downing has named Nick Burley as a member of its capital solutions team, based in London.

The recently-launched team will manage capital on behalf of institutional investors, providing new investment strategies and funds with high return potential, Downing says.

Burley will be responsible for strategic transactions, and will play a significant role in the team’s growth.

With more than 30 years of experience in the industry, Burley was most recently chief financial officer at Alliance Medical, a role in which he served for more than six years. He has held several financial director and chief financial officer roles, at companies such as McCormick and the Vita Group.

Commenting on his appointment, Burley says: “Our new capital solutions team is focused on identifying off-market opportunities, which have the potential for delivering enhanced returns to investors and which require operational as well as capital solutions to unlock. I look forward to supporting its expansion and success. It is exciting to bring together a team that has a history of delivery to an entrepreneurial and fast-growing investment manager such as Downing, whose commitment to sustainable investing is underlined by its recent accreditation as a B Corp.”

Paul Taylore, head of Downing’s capital solutions, adds: “I am delighted to welcome Nick to the team. Both transactional investment and portfolio management expertise are key to our ability to build a business of significant scale and Nick has decades of experience in both of these areas. As we move forward, we look forward to announcing more new joiners and activities soon.”
