Bloomberg has added ALTD < GO >, an alternative data function, to the Bloomberg Terminal, giving users access to early reads on company performance.
Through the service, equity analysts and portfolio managers are provided with intra-quarter insights in advance of earnings announcements. These can be incorporated into research workflows, along with consensus estimates, company news, research and guidance.
Following the launch, clients are able to incorporate alternative data including consumer translation data analytics and location analytics into research workflows. This will facilitate more informed investment strategies, Bloomberg says.
ALTD < GO > has been added to the terminal in response to limitations that investors are facing around the adoption of alternative data, including the high costs associated with gathering quality data and employing teams of data scientists to use it effectively.
Richard Lai, global head of alternative data at Bloomberg’s office of the chief technology officer says: “Alternative data enables customers to gain faster, deeper insights into company performance. We will continue expanding the universe of alternative datasets available via Bloomberg's products, and enhancing the unified data model that ties these datasets together.
“This will enable us to create more powerful analytics to support our customers in finding differentiated investment opportunities through deeper levels of research than previously possible.”
Koby Ben-Zvi, president of launch partner and location analytics provider Placer.ai, states: “Location analytics presents a critical lens to viewing true company performance, and bringing this perspective into a unified view is a leap forward in empowering investors to deepen their understanding of market opportunities.
“Through ALTD < GO >, Bloomberg Terminal users can deploy our foot traffic analytics to generate insights into venues and consumer trends and optimise decision-making.”
