Dr Urs Rüegsegger, group CEO of SIX has been unanimously elected as the new chairman of the World Federation of Exchanges (WFE) working committee.
The votes were cast at the WFE annual general meeting in Seoul, and Rüegsegger will hold the position for two years. He is the first Swiss national to assume leadership of a WFE central committee.
Rüegsegger said: “I am delighted that I am able to contribute in this regard and would like to express my gratitude for the trust that the general assembly has placed in me."
The working committee represents about 60 regulated exchanges from around the world and serves to advise the board of directors on various industry issues.
It is designed to establish and harmonise standards for fair, efficient and transparent trading, as well as promoting understanding of regulatory changes and their functions.
"It is important that we tackle current and future challenges facing the regulated exchanges in a united and internationally networked manner,” said Rüegsegger.
