Institutional Shareholder Services (ISS) has appointed Shinbo Won as head of Asia Pacific research, effective 3 August.
Won will lead a geographically diverse team providing proxy research and recommendations for more than 5,000 company shareholder meetings annually in 14 Asia Pacific markets outside of Japan, including Hong Kong, South Korea, China, India, Singapore, Taiwan, Malaysia, Thailand and Indonesia.
He will also steward development of ISS’s benchmark voting policies for those markets, as well as thought-leadership efforts for the region.
Georgina Marshall, head of global research at ISS, commented: “Our clients will benefit greatly from Won’s deep knowledge and understanding of Asia’s corporate governance landscape.”
“As someone familiar with the regional concerns of both global and local investors as well as their Asia-based portfolio companies, [he] brings both perspective and rigor to guide our analyses.”
Prior to his new role, Won served as head of ISS's South Korea research unit, overseeing the provision to global institutions of proxy research for more than 1,000 companies per year. He joined ISS in 2013 as an investor relations specialist based in Seoul.
Won replaces Jun Frank, who will take on a new role within ISS later this year.
