Deloitte has made several changes to its UK financial services practice, appointing senior partner James O’Riordan as head of the business.

Previously, O’Riordan was head of insurance and co-head of the EMEA insurance practice, a role that will be taken over by David Rush.

O’Riordan’s experience covers middle- and back-office insurance and banking operations, and he has worked with insurers, bank assurers and retail banks.

He said: “The financial services industry has faced numerous challenges in recent years, spanning technology disruption to increased regulation. As new start-ups look to take on established banks and insurers, we’re seeing much greater competition.”

“Our team is well equipped and experienced in addressing these challenges. We have ambitious plans to grow our business, and I am confident we can achieve this goal.”

Rush was previously a senior partner at Deloitte, where he has worked since 1990 and served as audit partner on several large clients.

David Myers and Neil Tomlinson have been appointed as head of capital markets and head of banking, respectively.

Myers was previously head of capital markets in the UK, and has specific experience in trading, exchanges, clearinghouses and central depositories systems.

Tomlinson was a senior partner and a member of Deloitte’s EMEA financial services industry consulting team. Before joining Deloitte he was a senior executive at NatWest, and he specialises in strategy and business transformation.
