Control Risks has appointed John Meakin as director for its cyber security practice in Europe and Africa.
Meakin retired as chief security and risk officer (CISO) at Burberry plc in London in 2017.
He has been advising a number of large and specialist businesses on cyber strategy since then.
Meakin is a specialist in information and systems security with more than 25 years’ experience.
In previous roles, he was chief security officer for the conglomerate Richemont International SA in Geneva and has built and led security functions in a number of different banks, at BP and Reuters.
Commenting on his new role, Meakin said: “Joining Control Risks allows me to share my deep experience as a cyber security leader with a huge variety of clients and engage with them on a number of complex projects. I am a true believer in Control Risks’ threat-led approach to cyber security.”
He added: “In today’s world, where the next cyber-attack is just a matter of time, organisations need to ensure that they invest their resources—time and money—not only in a cyber-security strategy that is tailored to their specific risks, but also treat cyber security as part of a holistic, business-wide risk management programme.”
James Owen, senior partner at Control Risks said: “We are delighted to strengthen the cyber security offering for our clients with the recruitment of such an extraordinarily experienced CISO as John Meakin. With his vast expertise, John Meakin will support our large cyber security consulting projects and offer enormous value to our clients.”
