Duncan Cooper has joined BNY Mellon as head of OMNISM digital services, Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA) from HSBC Securities Services.

Based in London, Cooper will report to Mal Cullen, head of OMNI digital services at BNY Mellon.

Cooper joins from HSBC where he served as head of data products strategy from September 2018 to March 2021.

At HSBC, he was responsible for the overarching data product strategy within HSBC Securities Services, which covered global custody, direct custody and clearing, fund accounting, middle office services and transfer agency business lines.

HSBC has not yet confirmed a new replacement for Cooper’s role.

Commenting on the new appointment at BNY Mellon, Cullen says: “We are very pleased to have Duncan Cooper join the BNY Mellon team, bringing with him a broad range of experience in the development of product strategy, enterprise and solution architecture design for financial services technology.”

“Cooper will play a critical role in the continued strategic development of our OMNI services, as well as the deployment of the asset servicing digital and data solutions within EMEA,” adds Cullen.

BNY Mellon OMNI is a client and data-centric open, modular platform to power and optimise the investment lifecycle.

In January BNY Mellon and Amundi teamed up to enhance risk management and optimise investment decision-making for asset managers.

The alliance will translate into the technological integration of BNY Mellon OMNISM and Amundi’s ALTO* to provide integrated portfolio management and risk management tools and operational efficiencies for common clients.

BNY Mellon also recently bolstered its team with the appointment of Mark Militello as Japan country executive to drive the execution of its Japan strategy and growth priorities, and oversee governance responsibilities, including regulatory and legal compliance.
