BNY Mellon has bolstered its asset serving business with the appointments of Hadley Stern, David Schwed, and Benjamin Duve.
In their new roles, Stern, Schwed, and Duve will support digital asset technology, digital custody and blockchain at BNY Mellon.
As the new global head of digital custody, Stern will be responsible for overseeing business and product development for BNY Mellon’s digital custody offering, reporting to Caroline Butler, global head of custody.
According to BNY Mellon, Stern brings decades of experience at the nexus of digital assets and traditional finance to the role, most recently serving as the head of Amazon Web Services’ Innovation Labs.
Before this he was chief operating officer of blockchain software solutions provider, Bloq, and he spent nearly two decades in a variety of product and innovation roles at Fidelity Investments.
Schwed joins as global head of digital asset technology, reporting to Jeremy Dobrick, managing director. Schwed will be responsible for integrating IT strategy for BNY Mellon’s digital asset offerings across the enterprise.
In this role, Schwed will ensure maximum coordination and information sharing across all facets of the organisation as they work together to meet clients’ needs.
Prior to rejoining BNY Mellon, he served as chief architect of Galaxy Digital’s information security programme. During his career, he has also worked at Citi, Merrill Lynch, and Marsh.
Meanwhile, Duve joins as director, digital assets and blockchain. BNY Mellon says Duve will play a key role in advancing its digital strategy in Europe, the Middle East and Africa.
Additionally, Duve will work across the enterprise to develop innovative offerings as clients’ digital asset needs continue to evolve, with offerings spanning cryptocurrencies and digital cash as well as various forms of tokenised assets.
Duve will also partner with BNY Mellon’s client teams to help clients in the German and broader European markets navigate the exciting and emerging field of digital assets and related technical and regulatory considerations.
Based in Frankfurt, Germany, Duve will be part of BNY Mellon’s Digital Assets Unit, reporting to Mike Demissie, head of Digital Assets Unit and Advanced Solutions. Most recently, Duve was head of digital assets and custody at Commerzbank.
Roman Regelman, CEO of asset servicing and head of digital at BNY Mellon, comments: “We are pleased to have such talented industry veterans joining the BNY Mellon team. It is yet another example of our ongoing commitment to attract top talent in a very competitive market to support our clients’ evolving needs across the investment lifecycle.”
He adds: “Their expertise will allow us to further advance our digital strategy and deliver on our promise of being a trusted and innovative provider of industry-leading solutions. The growth of our global team and its capabilities are top priorities in the evolution of our digital asset business.”
