Alex Kriete, Citi's director, co-head of digital assets, is set to leave the bank to start a new company in the cryptocurrency sector. Based in New York, Kriete has served at Citi since 2011.

Prior to being co-head of digital assets, Kriete was co-head of digital assets for Citi Global wealth investments.

Before that he was senior vice president, investment counsellor of Citi Private Bank.

Commenting on his departure from Citi via LinkedIn, Kriete says: “After 11 years at Citi, I have decided to take on a new challenge and will be leaving the firm. I am incredibly grateful for the personal and professional experiences gained, the lifelong relationships with friends and clients built, and the opportunities offered to help build new business lines. I wish Citi and all my great colleagues immense success in the future.”

He adds: “I will be taking on a new challenge professionally by creating a new company in [the crypto] space. Unsurprisingly to those who know me, I believe digital assets will continue to grow in importance to global capital markets and the formation of new business models, and I could not be more excited to assist in the maturation of this market. I look forward to sharing more details about my new venture in the next few weeks.”
