The International Securities Services Association (ISSA) has appointed Javier Hernani to its executive board to take over from former SIX appointee, Thomas Zeeb.
Hernani has been head of securities services at SIX since January 2021, following the takeover of BME by SIX.
He is also a member of SIX’s executive board and has been the CEO of Bolsas y Mercados Españoles, Holding Company of Financial Markets and Systems, since April 2017.
Over the past two years, ISSA has focused on the execution of its strategy and its analysis of industry imperatives, such as the future of securities services, digitisation, resilience, and distributed ledger technology.
Hernani’s appointment to the ISSA board comes more than a year after Jason James Nabi was appointed to replace Pierre Yves Goemans.
On accepting the nomination, Hernani says: “I am excited to be joining the board of ISSA, having been a member for a number of years. It is one of the most forward-looking and successful associations within our industry. The board has made significant strides positioning ISSA to continue to shape the future of securities services, and I look forward to playing my part in their continued success.”
Phil Brown, chairman of ISSA, states: “SIX has been a long-standing supporter of ISSA, and it is extremely good news that Javier is joining the board. He brings another perspective and will immediately add further strength to a great board.”
He adds: “I would also like to offer my own thanks to Tom who has been a stalwart member of the board for almost a decade and has served as chair of the board during his tenure. It has been a genuine pleasure to work alongside Tom and we will miss his active contributions greatly.”
