MUFG Investor Services (MUFG), the global asset servicing arm of Mitsubishi UFJ Financial Group, has appointed Yannis Matsis as managing director and head of its Cyprus office, the firm’s new operational centre, located in the city of Limassol.

Matsis will be responsible for the oversight of the firm’s local asset servicing capabilities, growth within the local Cypriot market, and business expansion activities in Europe and the Middle East.

Matsis brings more than 20 years of experience in financial services. Prior to MUFG, Matsis served as CEO at Hellenic Bank Group in Cyprus, where he was responsible for managing the bank and its insurance subsidiaries.

Prior to that role, he was partner and a co-founder of Point Nine, a financial technology start-up that offers technology and middle and back-office trade processing, operations and reporting outsourcing services to financial institutions.

Matsis currently serves as chairman of the board of directors of the Cyprus Investment Promotion Agency/Invest Cyprus, as chairman of the board of directors of the Cyprus Institute of Neurology and Genetics, and as chairman of Point Nine Data Trust.

Commenting on his new role, Matsis says: “I have long admired MUFG as a trusted advisor to its clients, providing them with bespoke solutions across services to meet and exceed their operational needs. I look forward to working closely with John and the rest of the team to build out our new Cyprus office during this period of rapid firm growth.”

John Sergides, CEO of MUFG Investor Services, adds: “Yannis’ impressive track record of successfully building and managing global debt capital market teams will be invaluable as our new office looks to continually support our clients in both Europe and around the world.”
