SWIFT’s board of directors has appointed J.P. Morgan’s Graeme Munro as its non-executive chair and Samantha Emery of Lloyds Banking Group as non-executive deputy chair.
The appointments follow former chair Yawar Shah’s departure in December.
Munro was nominated for his new role by the US Swift community, while Emery was nominated by the UK’s.
Munro is the managing director and chief controls manager for J.P Morgan’s corporate and investment bank. During his 30-year tenure at J.P. Morgan, he has held senior-leadership roles in both the bank’s derivative operations and its payments operations.
Munro has extensive knowledge of technology, operations and risk management across payments, securities, foreign exchange and trade finance to the board.
Emery, who will serve alongside Munro, is the director of payments, industry and development and Lloyds Banking Group. She has more than 15 years experience in industry and regulatory roles.
Prior to joining Lloyds Banking Group, Emery led payments supervision and fintech strategy portfolios at the UK’s Financial Conduct Authority. There she was also race and ethnicity co-chair.
Javier Pérez-Tasso, CEO of SWIFT, comments: “Following the board’s selection process, and on behalf of Swift’s management team, I congratulate both Graeme and Samantha on their new appointments and look forward to working with them in their new capacities.”
