State Street and Barclays partner on fixed income strategies

State Street’s asset management business, State Street Global Advisors, has announced a collaboration with Barclays Quantitative Portfolio Strategy (Barclays QPS) around active fixed income strategies.

Through the partnership, State Street Global Advisors will be able to develop and manage investment products and strategies using Barclays QPS’ systemic strategy indices.

This follows a recent State Street Global Advisors report which saw 91 percent of institutional investors express an interest in using systematic fixed income strategies over the coming year.

Matthew Steinaway, chief investment officer of fixed income, cash and currency at State Street Global Investors, says: “Over the past decade, fixed income securities have traded more efficiently and with greater liquidity. By collaborating with Barclays’ QPS team, we will be able to create a suite of active fixed income products that leverage the strengths of our respective organisations and speak to the future of fixed income.”

Jeff Meli, head of research at Barclays, adds: “By combining the disciplined portfolio management strength of State Street Global Advisors with the research strength of Barclays QPS, the collaboration will play to the core strengths of both institutions, enabling investors to benefit from innovative systematic fixed income strategies.”
