The European Banking Authority (EBA) has elected Helmut Ettl as vice-chairperson for the next two and a half years.
Ettl has represented Austria as a voting member on the EBA board of supervisors since 2011.
He is also executive director of the Austrian Financial Market Authority, a position he has held for the past 15 years.
Ettl is additionally a member of the supervisory board at the European Central Bank, and a member of the European Systemic Risk Board.
He replaces Jo Swyngedouw, whose term as vice-chairperson has come to a close.
He will vacate his seat on the EBA Management Board to take on his new position at the EBA.
Ettl began his career in finance when he joined the foreign research division of the Oesterreichische Nationalbank in 1995.
He was appointed deputy head of the bank’s banking analysis and inspections division in 2001 and was promoted to head two years later.
